Title

Ajax Enabled Typo3 Extension Development

Authors

Taras Vasilkevich

Abstract

The user expectations for modern web application have changed in last few years. The term Ajax became a synonym to user friendly, responsive desktop-like web applications, which are used on an everyday basis.

This was possible because of the rapid development of java script libraries. The one of most popular and mature of them is ExtJS. Started as extension of from Yahoo developed YahooUI library (YUI), ExtJs quickly evolve to self-contained cross-browser JavaScript library for building rich Internet applications.

Key features of ExtJs are:
- High performance, customizable UI widgets
- Well designed, documented and extensible Component model
- An intuitive, easy to use API
- Commercial and Open Source licenses available

The success of the library has not omitted the Typo3 community as well. In 2007 Joerg Schoppet started the development of Typo3 extension with the same name. It provides ExtJS and a PHP library to easily implement it in Typo3. Another extensions like kt_contenttabs, vcommune, realty__search use ExtJS to make their functionality better.

In this paper I would like to discuss the development of an extension powered by ExtJS. For this purpose the Classifiedads extension is in process of complete redesign by the author. As a result of the development a detailed set of best practices will be compiled. The special attention will be paid to possible pitfall and integration of ExtJS with typo script.

Classifiedads extension can be used for creation and of classified ads websites. Website users can publish classified ads, browse and search ads. They have possibility to manage their own ads, add small gallery of images to it.
